The rubric
Shovelware listicles don’t tell you how they score. We do — that’s the whole point. Every verdict on this site uses exactly two instruments:
7 Coins-Worth (1–10)
One question: is the payoff worth the spend? We watch the entire free run, then buy targeted unlocks across the paid half — the wall, the midpoint, the finale — so every score reflects real coins spent. Full binge-throughs happen on the channel for deep-dive reviews. We weigh:
- Story & payoff — does the back half deliver, or does the wall guard a rerun of the front half?
- Bingeability — cliffhanger craft, pacing, whether episodes earn their 90 seconds.
- Production — cast chemistry and budget on screen, judged against the genre, not against HBO.
- Real cost — what finishing actually costs in coins on that app, that week.
7+ means we’d spend our own coins again. 4–6 means watch the free run and decide. 3 or under: the free run is the show.
A fair Paywall-Fairness (A–F)
Independent of quality — a great series can hide behind a rude wall. We grade:
- Free-run length — how much show you get before the wall.
- Wall placement — arc breaks are fair; mid-cliffhanger placement is engineered impulse-spending and costs a full grade.
- Coin pricing — per-episode cost against the app’s own average.
The verdicts
- WORTH IT — spend the coins.
- FREE-FRIENDLY — the free run alone is worth your time.
- SKIP — life is short, catalogs are long.
- TRAP — engineered to bait the paywall; we name these loudly.
Independence
We buy our own coins. Apps and studios can submit series and grant clip permissions, but submissions never buy a score — sponsors are labeled, verdicts aren’t for sale, and “preview” verdicts are replaced by full reviews as the channel covers each series.
